Obituary of Elise Rosina Fisher

Elise Rosina Fisher, 96, died peacefully on Wednesday March 22 in Washington, DC. She was born July 12, 1920 to Edward and Rosina Fisher. She was preceded in death by her brother Edward George Fisher, jr. After graduating from high school she received her Bachelor's Degree from George Washington University and her Master's Degree after studying at Pembroke College in Brown University and George Washington University. She taught mathematics at Valparaiso University in Indiana before moving back to Washington, DC in the early 1950s. Elise was one of the early computer programmers for NASA and worked on several rocket trajectory programs, including the Delta rockets used for satellite launches. Retiring from NASA in 1985, she remained active in several volunteer capacities in the District, including N Street Village and Christ Lutheran Church. She was a talented pianist and organist and enjoyed and supported the city's arts organizations. She is survived by eight nephews and one niece as well as several cousins. A memorial service is being planned at Christ Lutheran Church for 2:30pm on April 22, 2017. Memorial donations may be made in Elise's name to Christ Lutheran Church, 5101 16th Street NW, Washington, DC 20011.
