Obituary of Isabel MacLeod

Isabel (Betty) Blount MacLeod passed away on October 9, 2019 at the Riderwood Retirement Community in Silver Spring, Maryland. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, in 1923, to Ida May (Griffiths) and Harold B. Blount, Isabel trained at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey, and joined the Army as a nurse in 1945. She met her husband, William A. MacLeod, at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, and after their marriage in 1946, lived as an Army wife in Italy, Germany, Turkey, and nine US states. They retired in 1976 to Stockbridge, Michigan, where Isabel could indulge her interests in gardening and beekeeping. She and her husband were also deeply involved for many years with the Clan MacLeod Society and in Scottish country dancing groups. She expressed her considerable artistic talents in many ways, producing lovely watercolors, embroidered pieces, hand-quilted patchwork quilts, and other handicrafts that are treasured by her family. Isabel moved to Maryland to be nearer her children in 2005. She is survived by her children, Bill (Myra) of Athol, MA; Margaret MacLeod, of Baltimore, MD; John (Joan) of Silver Spring, MD; and Stewart (Marty) of Traverse City, MI; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her husband died in 2002.
