Obituary of June Leonard

June W. Leonard (Age 95)

 

June was born to Ida Mae and Arthur Walters on June 11, 1926 and passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on February 19, 2022. June was born and raised in Pocatello, Idaho (Bannock County). She was the youngest of four children. June was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, son-in-law (Tom Rogers), and a grandson (Keith Rogers).

 

She married, Robert M. Leonard in 1946. June and Robert moved to Minnesota, so Robert could complete his PHD in Pharmacy. They then moved to Maryland where Bob was offered a job at GWU. June and Bob had three children: Lauri, Arthur, and Cynthia.

June had a beautiful soprano voice and was given the nickname “Golden Voice” in high school. June graduated from Idaho State University with a bachelor degree in music. At an early age, June learned to play piano and was encouraged to play for relatives. She also played piano for a Senior Center and taught music and piano at Cynthia Warner School.

 

June was very active at Christ Congregational Church since joining in 1953. She was a soprano in the church choir and also sang solos. She traveled with CCC choir where they sang in other countries and other churches, as well as musicals. In her church she saw the need to start a support group for widows and helped form the group, “Sister for Sisters”. June, along with many of her CCC friends were actively involved in Bridge clubs. She had many bridge club parties at her home and was asked a number of times to be a substitute in other Bridge clubs.

 

June is survived by her three children: Lauri A. Rogers, Arthur M. Leonard (Leslie), and Cynthia L. Crump (Gordon). Also, six grandchildren: Thomas J. Rogers, Jason V. Rogers, Adam Leonard (Lesley Anne), Anna Leonard Hawryluk (Steve), Tim Crump (Katie), and Bethany C. Crump.
