Obituary of Denyse B Cedarburg

Denyse Cedarburg Teacher, Navy Wife

Denyse B. Cedarburg (88), a retired teacher and Navy Wife passed away in Fredericksburg, VA on 2 November 2022.

Mrs. Cedarburg, a long time resident of Alexandria, VA and most recently Fredericksburg, VA, was born Denyse Brown in Chicago, IL and received her undergraduate education at Elmhurst College, Elmhurst, IL. She taught Elementary school in suburban Chicago until her marriage in 1958 to then Navy Lieutenant Owen L. Cedarburg. She subsequently taught school while accompanying her husband and family to duty stations in Norfolk, VA, Subic Bay, Philippines, Great Lakes, IL, Newport RI, Canberra Australia, and Alexandria, VA. She was a hospital volunteer in Subic Bay during the Vietnam War. In retirement, she also volunteered at Alexandria Hospital.

Denny, as most people knew her, was an avid golfer, winning many local tournaments as a member of the Army Navy Country Club. When not on the golf course she was often found playing bridge or hosting elaborately themed parties.

Denny was a prankster and loved to play practical jokes on more than just April Fools Day! She loved a good joke and enjoyed making others laugh.

She loved a good game of Monopoly with her grandchildren or making bets with them when their teams were in the Super Bowl or World Series. She was a Redskins fan to the end and loved watching them play on weekends.

Her family would like to thank her many caregivers at Chancellor’s Village, but a special thank you to Mary Franco, and her “Daily Angels”, Rose Veney and Pam Montgomery, who gave unending care and love. She loved them dearly. Their dedication and true compassion was appreciated by us all.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Captain Owen L. Cedarburg JAGC, USN retired. She is survived by her three daughters, Leslie (Captain Timothy McGuire USCG ret), Tracey Allen, Cynthia (David Rundgren) and four grandchildren, Dylan Rundgren, Christian Allen, Owen and Molly McGuire.

Owen and Denny will be able to celebrate their 64th wedding anniversary together on 8 November in the arms of our Lord.

Friends and family are invited to a prayer service followed by a celebration of their life, at Chancellor’s Village on 5 November from 11:00 - 1:00
