Obituary of Ruth Ann Lincoln

Ruth Ann Lincoln, 61, of Germantown Md., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her daughter and friends in Bethesda, MD on July 31, 2017. Ruth was the daughter of Thomas Richard and Hedwig (Janke) Lincoln and was born on June 1, 1956. Brought up in Forestville, CT and a graduate of Bristol Eastern H.S., Ruth was a visual artist, world traveler, inquirer, friend, and loving sister. She was also a devoted and caring mother to her beautiful daughter Sarala Lincoln. After graduating from Post College, Ruth was employed by the U.S. Foreign Service before moving on to the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Consular Affairs. Her work as a consulate officer took her throughout the world including extended stays in India, Pakistan, and the Philippines. Her travels instilled in her a deep love and appreciation for other cultures and a respect for the opinions and perspectives of others. After returning and working in Washington, D.C., Ruth retired from the State Department on May 1, 2017. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Hedwig Lincoln (Forestville, CT); her brother Thomas (Bristol, CT); and brother Terry (Wilmington, NC). She is survived by her daughter Sarala; her sister-in-law Bernadette (Martin) Lincoln (Lebanon, CT); her brother Stephen and his wife Lori Lincoln (Bellingham, WA); her sister Mary Lincoln (Stamford, CT); her brother Peter Lincoln and his wife Stella Ireland (La Conner, WA); and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to her family and friends who provided a tremendous amount of love and caring during Ruth's final days with us. Though taken from us much too soon, Ruth's spirit will always remain alive in our hearts and in our sweet memories of her. A memorial service will be arranged at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to the Days End Farm Horse Rescue or The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee.
